Herring event Amrâth Hotel Brabant big success

Tuesday, 7 June: While the first herring vat was being auctioned off in Scheveningen, people at the Amrâth Hotel Brabant in Breda were busy getting ready for their third herring feast.  On Tuesday, 7 June 2011, four hundred guests could enjoy their first new herring of this year. The herrings were cleaned right there and then handed to the guests. Its excellent quality could be noted in the guests’ reactions. 

It was three years ago that the Amrâth Hotel Brabant hit upon the idea of holding a herring feast on the day that the first vat was auctioned. Now, three years later, this gesture has become a real seafood event. And this year, the theme of the event was ‘the experience’. The location – the restaurant – was completely transformed into an ‘underwater’ setting. The opening speech made by the general manager, Vincent Schuit, made the point that the experience was what the hotel industry was all about. The décor, the opening act and the wonderful herring made ‘this experience’ a real treat for the guests. Eye-catchers that afternoon included not only the pretty mermaid and her protector King Neptune, but also the eleven sponsors who teamed up to open the herring feast to everyone’s enjoyment. 

The eleven sponsors see this event as a fresh new way to honour their customers by means of an ‘old Dutch’ tradition. And due to the success of the events held in the last two years, there was a real run this year on the four hundred ‘fishing permits’ that were used as admission tickets that day. Unfortunately, a number of companies ‘missed the boat’ this year, but they can again sign up for this spectacular event in 2012.
